Hey guys,

I recently imported a motorola atrix 4g from the AT&T in the USA and im having a problem with reaching 3g, it seems to be locked almost. It camps on edge but wont get 3g. I found it to be common and it just needs rooting to fix.

The issue is i have no idea around rooting and all that stuff, does anybody know of any "cell phone specialists" I could contact to help me out? I'll pay them obviously.

Iv pasted a few links with solutions to the issue.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm no expert but as far as my understanding goes, USA uses a different waveband or whatever to our 3G standards and thus if it is not a quad band, even rooting won't help. So first step would be to determine that it should be working in SA. Then rooting if needed... Or return to motorola sA?

Ah right. Had it the wrong way round.

They all use GSM for calls & edge etc. UMTS & CDMA for broadband.

Frequencies should work out fine if its a quad band phone.

You're not on Cell C by any chance? I see the Atrix 4G only supports 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz 3G reception, whilst the regular Atrix supports 900 MHz 3G as well.

To root your phone you can use SuperOneClick from XDA, search for it, it is on the forums
Here is another way to root your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046626&highlight=root+atrix

However, I doubt you need to root to your phone to flash a .sbf, no matter, now you know.

* Download RSD lite from XDA (search for it)
* Download the zipped sbf files and unzip them --> http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0LDOGFJ
* Use RSD lite and flash the desired sbf file to your phone from within windows. Make sure your phone is connected with the USB cable and it is in "charge only" mode.

According to the article no reboot is needed, but to be safe, reboot your phone and test it out.

So basically even if i unlock the at&t hsupa lock they talk about it the articles il still be buggered cause im on cell c?? Geez that sucks..

It seems only in certain areas, not everywhere. You will have to get someone in the CellC section to give you more details.

Ah, think id find a buyer for this phone? Id let it go for R3200. Its brand new, thats half price what it goes for here.

Ill put it on the classifieds, should get sold for that price i think. It's a real pity cause i thought cell c was 4g and this is the motorola atrix 4g so i figured it would get me the best speeds.
