Cell Signal Blocking

Does anyone kow of a device/equipment that blocks any cellphone signal as soon as you walk into a designated area?

Banks in the UK use a film that is applied to windows to block the signal. A jammer is also available - try 'spy shops'

I think cpt1910 is referring to jamming, rather than blocking.
Jamming probably has some intricate legal/red tape issues.

Blocking, as in shielding, however is (should be) ok.
I know of film that is mostly used in cars to block infrared from the sun, called siglasol. It also blocks rf, but then you need to have the walls made of steel or something that blocks the signal. Any openings, even very small ones, can leak signal through.
I am not sure how efficiently siglasol blocks rf though.

If the designated area is not completely closed off, then there will be a "grey" area where reception is possible with mixed success.

My thinking exactly. The only way to properly block a RF signal would be to turn the whole building into a Faraday cage. Windows count for only a % of the building, so I can think they'll be effective in blocking the signal. And surely the 'shield' must be earthed?

Jamming is illegal as you're transmitting without a license.

You shouldn't have any legal issues if it's your own Building. However Broadcasting would be. Just get a license to broadcast a jam signal.... Doubt they'll even charge u. Then again... Who will know what your doing ? Unless some squeels.....
