Cell signal boosters

I have one of these at my place with a high gain antenna. It works like a charm, my calls are crystal clear and I went from having a signal of H to 4G+. It was supplied and installed by MTN, I didn't have to pay for it

Hi MidnightZA

I have a few questions about the cellphone booster if you don't mind.
How did you apply for the booster and what the process like?
How long did it take for them to install the unit and does it work with for other cellphone signal as well like Vodaom and Telkom?

MTN has a online form for network coverage. I filled that in and I also called them a number of times complaining about poor signal and network performance. At the time I did not have fibre so LTE was my only option.

I did that in Dec 20/Jan 21. They called me a few days (or maybe weeks?) later to follow up with some questions (Basically same questions on the online form but part of their process I guess). Around June/July 21 they contact me again with the lease agreement (I think I posted about it somewhere on the forum). I had to sign that and send it back to them, and the installer made an appointment with me to install a few weeks after. The installer was from JHB, I am in Richards Bay, so I had to wait for a while for them to come install (they told me they come here when there are a few installs planned in the area). It was installed towards end of Aug 21. So 8 to 9 months in total, the actual install took them about an hour. I already had an antenna pole mounted so it saved them a bit of time

I haven't tested Voda or Telkom personally, but the installer did tell me it will boost all network signals.

Thanks for the feedback. It has really helped us in our decision in which direction to go. We had made contact with a company that does supply and install the equipment but the cost is quite high-ish. On the otherhand it could be supplied and installed for free by MTN but the time it takes to get to that point need to be taken into consideration. Thanks again for the feedback.

You would also need to consider MTN may not approve the install though even after the months of waiting for them to get back to you. Ive been an MTN customer for 15+ years and theres 4 MTN numbers in my household. That would probably have some weight into what they decide.
