Cell taxes scare operators

"High taxes are a deterrent for operators. To encourage faster penetration, governments must lower taxes. In the end, this would help the consumer," Gabriel Solomon, GSM Association director for government and regulatory affairs, told Reuters.

In other words, bend over, grab your ankles.

Allow me to rewrite some of Mr Solomon's quote:
To encourage faster penetration, network operators must lower prices
.
Getting government to lower taxes can take years. Operators can lower prices tomorrow.

yup, besides who says they will pass the savings % to the end users?

All these fools just happen to so conveniently sidestep the impact that 'Telkom costs' have on telecommunications in general when looking for ways to improve profits or increase penetration.
Its such a farce.
