Hi, my complex has installed a feature whereby the gate to complex opens if your car is in a specific location (white lines in front of the gate) and you dial a specific number.
What I would like to know is it possible for my phone to automatically dial the number to open the gate when I’m infront of the gate.
Ie at specific location dial number and it opens without me having to manually dial the number and taking out my phone.

“ When calling, the activation of the gate is linked to a “loop”. Residents will see this loop as a white block which has been painted in front of the entrance gate. The vehicle is be positioned on top of this loop in order for the gate to open. Should the vehicle not be stationery on the loop the gate will not open. The cell-to-gate system is easy to use: Step 1: Cell phone number will be activated on the system by managing agent Step 2: Resident to save the gate number on their device Step 3: Ensure that there is airtime loaded on the cell phone when calling, although the call is free, your cell phone will require airtime to call out. Caller ID is not to be set to a private number the gate will need to identify your number. Step 4: Call the gate number whilst stationery on the white painted loop in order for the gate to open. The gate will automatically close after entry. “

You can try using a simple ITTT formula to start the call when you reach a specific GPS location. It will probably not be very reliable because of the nature of the intervals at which you gps update your location locally but probably worth trying?

Dont think you will get a ready-made app for that. You will have custom-roll something. Why not just manually call the gate when you are on the spot?

Whoever came up with this call to open gate system nonsense needs to be shot, repeatedly. I didn't think they could make it more inconvenient but they seem to have done it.

Thank **** we're getting remotes back at our complex.

I can think of a couple of scenarios where it can be very useful but I agree not as the main solution.
I am actually looking at implementing something like this at home for my cleaning lady and gardener. Missed call opens the gate only on the days where I am expecting them to be there. No keys, remotes or anything else that can go missing...

You need both, remotes and a GSM module.

Remotes for residents, GSM for visitors (you can open when you are out of range, irrespective of where you are)

A more primitive approach would be to have a cheap code-access panel which is powered by a timer so it only works whenever the timer is active.

I have a DTS motor and recently installed a gsm module called GCOM500 which we use in addition to our remotes. Comes in handy if someone goes out without carrying a remote. Also has the abilty to allow certain numbers access between times specified, like the cleaner/gardner etc.

Yes but our complex, and my one friend's, uses this as the only access method. So unbelievably annoying. Should get our remotes back next week thank goodness.

Slightly more difficult to set up though as you have multiple points of failure in a system like that. Timer, keypad, additional cabling, additional relay are all points that can break. A solution like this is a GSM board with a sim card, processor, relay and storage all in one unit and they arent that expensive.

There are a couple of different options out there. I remember looking at a couple of units a while back that also allows specific numbers admin rights as well so that you can program additional number and single access using SMS. The name of the unit completely escapes me now though...

The GSM Commander allows only a single admin, AFAIK, otherwise it's as you described.

I have to take out my phone from my pocket, then dial... 1st world problems

Thanks, i cant seem to get it right.
I’m now activating siri from my radio and asking her to phone the number , “phone open sesami”

One option is to install a GPS tracking unit in your car, that you can configure yourself. You don't need to use the tracking function, if all you want to do is open the gate. Have the telephone number of the SIM card in the tracking unit registered with the access control unit.

Geofence the area around the gate. When your car stops and it is within the the Geofence, have the tracking unit initiate a call to the gate. Sorted! (PM, me if you are interested in a tracking unit that can do this.)

At least the tracking unit will be powered by your car battery. If after a busy day/night, your phone's battery is dead and you do not have your car charger, you are stuck outside the gate!

Because if I lose my remote I can always phone someone to arrange access, and if I lose my phone I can always get into my apartment to communicate from my computer.

Now if I lose my phone I'm screwed. I live one step away from crisis - no thank you. There must be alternatives.
