OK, I thought I will never go to CellC, but let me explain... Just bought Sony Vaio notebook in the USA with WWAN modem just only supports GSM 1800/1900. Apparently CellC is the only provider that operates on these freqencies (can anyone confirm this?), so I need a CellC simcard in order to connect on EDGE... The software just return CellC 65507 when performing a network scan, no VodaCom, nothing...

Anyway, I'm willing to try CellC but just need a simcard and data bundle. I will use approx 200MB per month, making the prepaid options @ R2 / MB too expensibe. Will get a contract, but don't need a phone or even free minutes. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Any ideas on what frequency Virgin Mobile works?? Although not detected on my network scan, I assume that are using the same GSM 1800/1900 standards as CellC?

There is a setting on the laptop that determines what frequency bands are searched. It may be that the setting was already preset for USA networks.
They use a different band, as do Cell C in addition to the usual GSM bands in SA. Maybe poke around in the network settings to see what frequency bands are being searched?

Why I am saying this is a friend got a phone from the USA and he could only get partial Cell C coverage.
