After you have activated your international roaming, it is wise to de-activate your voicemail:
**61*145#
This will ensure that calls are not routed to your voicemail when your phone is switched off, and you are not charged for the diverted call. You need to do this BEFORE you leave the country and BEFORE you switch off your phone on the aeroplane.
When you get back to the country, re-activate your voicemail as follows:
**62*145#
Things will be back to normal.
With this setting, you can still send and receive SMSs, receive calls/decline calls if you want to, and make calls (at international roaming rates).
**61*145#
