Hi there

I'm trying to use a Samsung D900 as a GPRS/EDGE modem with my Powerbook (OS X 10.4.11) via Bluetooth, and am having problems connecting to the internet via Cell C Smartdata.

I am hoping someone well-versed in modem-speak can help me with this.

1. I have no problems doing the same onto MTN with a Nokia N80 using Ross Barkmans scripts (http://www.taniwha.org.uk/).
2. The D900 SIM is data-enabled, and can browse internet on the phone.
3. I am using Ross' Generic 3G CID1 script, modifying the ATD string alternating between *99***1# and *99#.
4. APN is "internet"
5. I have searched this forum and elsewhere, trying out solutions proposed in "Cell C & Samsung d500 as Modem" and elsewhere; I am open to more suggestions trying to modify the MTU setting in OS X.
6. Bluetooth pairing is fine.
7. I've attached the logfile from the ppp process:

Oh, and I spent 30 minutes on hold with 140 before getting cut off moments after chatting to a data specialist, and got transferred to the customer service dialogue bot. Twice! A little peeved...

Thanks
Simon

Try switching to a generic gprs script instead of generic 3g script. Cellc network
doesnt support 3g anyway.

Good point Connor.

Interesting though - I checked the file contents of the two generic scripts (Generic GPRS CID1 & Generic 3G CID1) and the only differences were the setting serial port speed 57600
Code:
serreset 57600
and the resulting connection speed reporting. Nothing in the quality of service settings or init strings changed. So I'm not sure the script change will connect?

ok then try this...In your phones network setting select vodacom as use it to roam,
then try connect again.

Sorry, been caught up with stuff.

Conner, that's a clever idea! Unfortunately that didn't work either, so my next step is to swap SIMs (CellC <-> MTN) and see what happens on my Nokia and Samsung pppd log.

Unless anyone knows of a CellC Data staffer on the forums that I can liaise with directly?

fuzzy, I once tried to set up a G3 ibook with Ross' scripts, proxy's etc. with a D900 on b/tooth. Didn't work. Ross' stuff in terms of CellC is (was at the time) not correct. Pls dbl check settings if you are using the one's from his site. I also toggle Ross' cript with with Alex TRaud's (www.traud.de) for my SE and also find that a script from www.m10tech.com (shareware, 10 Euros) works great on SE and Motorola on Edge and 3g. There's is also a little app "Gprs script generator" with which you can generate your own script. Cheers, A.
