The greatest headache for those who develop apps for cellphones is that each one has to be rewritten for each different platform, but Adobe are hoping to create a platform that will allow one app to be deployed on all cellphones.
The plan is to have the apps developed under the banner of Adobe Air – which is currently being used to create their desktop applications – to create Android and Blackberry apps at first but later porting the same apps across the Windows Mobile, Symbian and iPhone platforms. Adobe wants developers to create their apps using its developer tools and then port them as AIR apps for cellphones and flash apps on the web.
With the upcoming release of the Flash 10.1 player and their intentionality with regards to mobile apps, one can only wonder how long Apple with maintain their stand-off. Even though 7 million iPhone users tried to download the flash player for their phones last December, more than double the amount who tried in July last year, Steve Jobs has continued to insist that as long as Flash is riddled with bugs, Apple is not interested.
While Flash in mobile browsers seems inevitable, whether apps built for for flash will be able to compete in the mobile market is yet to be seen.
