Guys, I am due for an upgrade with MTN. I am currently on an AnyTime 100 contract with a Nokia 5800 (sold it a while ago) for R150pm. Now using a Nokia E63 as a mean-time phone.
So, I can spend up to around R250, but preferably less, per month. I don't like the idea of a Blackberry. Even teen in my school has one and it's really not a great smartphone at all. They all use it for BBM entirely and have no idea what a real smartphone is all about.
What are the best options in my price range?
EDIT: I am willing to change network, should the best deal lie elsewhere.
That's a good price for the phone, but it's not a great choice for me. And R262 is quite pricey. I am really mainly looking at R200 max, only if it's really worth it will I go over (i.e. for an iPhone 4 - but with airtime too - not like Vodacom's R250pm deal but it comes with no airtime).
EDIT: I see MTN is offering the Samsung Wave 2 for R180pm with R100 airtime. Good deal? How is the Wave 2 overall?

LG Optimus One is a great mid-range Android smartphone that has a sharp 800x480 screen that would be great for web browsing. Not sure on the contract price but it should be in your price range.
I suppose an HTC Desire Z, HTC Desire HD, or Samsung Galaxy S would stretch your budget too much?
LG Optimus One actually has a HVGA screen (320 x 480 pixels) not WVGA....
Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I've settled on the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro. R139pm with R100 airtime and 25 free SMSs.

Call them on 808 & ask them to email you the current pricing. I did that in april last year. Warning the list is many pages long so don't click print unless you wanna print more than 10 pages.Well, I do have their brochure from mtnsp.co.za, but nothing else.
The x10 mini is a great phone in its own right but just keep in mind that it uses a tiny screen compared to what's out there and IMO its not a true smartphone. If you can stretch your budget to R199 pm you can pick up a Motorola Milestone from MTN with R100 airtime...
