(Cellphone) Interception laws will be tight

I want to know were do you as a user go to update you gave your phone to a family embmer and such. I asked at a Vodacom SP shop about this specificaly and the person that helped me didnt know WTF i was talking about I was like I want to give the phone to my mom, "its ok you can do that no problem no details to be filled in you can just give it too her end of story" that was the reply I got...

The information obtained in this fashion would be stored on a central electronic database, making it easier for law enforcement agencies to trace all previous owners of a phone or SIM card, parliament's justice portfolio committee heard on Tuesday.
All nicely cross-referenced with all the other databases of course. These are infringements on personal freedom and public speech. It is draconian. The SA gub may think it works in a vacuum but the world certainly takes note.

AFAIK the law doesnt come into play until July. You'd think they'd want to start as early as possible but hey - this is SA after all. Why do today what you can out off to tomorrow - Proudly Procrastinating.

I have no problem with this.
What ? They are also storing triangulation data and can work out where I've been ?
That's okay.
What ? They are selling this information to other companies for the purpose of direct marketing ?
That's not okay.

Oops ... I accidentally dropped my cell phone into a pool of urine.

As per requirement please report this to your nearest police station.

As I said somewhere before sort out violent crime its a direct threat on human life.Once that is sorted then pass stupid laws on percieved threats.
Does anyone realise how open to abuse this is going to be.
Lets say I'm a high profile bussiness man, how many bribes will it take to get info on my calls who I talk to and about what. Give someone a BM X5 and they know which resturant I'm eating at.
Can we argue to the Constitutional Court that at this stage this will be a gross infringment on our rights due to the corruption in government ?
Sort out the current problems before making new ones.
I'm sick of this country and its half assed government did they even think this through ..errrm... no but it benifits them so screw everyone else.

SARS in action! its nothing to do with crime.. its TAX collecting stunt and a method to get hold of tax evaders..
What is better than a list of ID Numbers, Cell phone numbers, addresses ... and a technology that can be positioned to find where the user is.

The SA guavamint doesnt care about crime and syndicates... it in ITSELF is part of the crime.
What happens if I use a thuraya Satellite phone?

Good point VIO i have a total of 6 active lines registered to my name I use 2 the rest are mom, g/f, 2 x techies in the field.
What do I do ?
