We are retired, and will be travelling overseas in May this year to UK & Ireland to visit our respective families. We will be out of SA for a month

My SO and I both have Android phones and 10" Android tablets. We have SIM cards (MTN, and Vodacom) in both our phones, and tablets. Our phones are dual-SIM capable.

We do not have any cellular contracts, we are on pre-paid, and buy voice/data bundles as we need them.
When at home in SA, our mobile devices are connected via WiFi to our home router (Telkom ISP ADSL)

The last time I was overseas, I was still working, and my Company footed the bill for all my cellular usage while roaming out of SA

I'm looking for advice on the best way to stay in touch with family / friends back in SA, as well as us needing to make the occasional phone call to UK / Ireland cellular numbers while we are in UK / Ireland

I'm hoping to get advice here on the best options. e.g. buy a UK / Ireland SIM and load voice/data bundles? Or just use our local SA SIMs which we would load with voice & data bundles before we leave for overseas?
