Cellular networks want another number portability delay

Icasa has been working towards number portability since 2003 — a launch was originally scheduled for November last year. The operators have won two delays, at one stage arguing that they needed time to work out the cost of installing and running the system to “protect subscribers from unnecessary or hidden costs”. This year, Icasa received written confirmation that the operators would be ready by September 18.

Cell C has proposed a new date of the end of October, while MTN and Vodacom lobbied for the end of November.
