Centralised authentication

Hi guys,


I am looking at integrating a couple of systems together and I was wondering a centralised authentication and user account managmement. previously on projects I have used nu authentication and been ok because the projects have been limimted to windows networks withina one company.

But is this day and age of the web how would one do it..
to have the same users on you nt domain, gapps domain, crm system, hosted website and ftp server?

Something that in windowx/linux friendly and works on the interwebs ?

yeah been looking on the web but with vast amount of things ldap can do I am not sure what is it suppose to do

I have used 389 Directory server from Fedora before to authenticate Linux and Solaris hosts.
