I am on 4mbit uncapped. Connected and modem is happy but throughput is near zero. Actually posting this using MTN. Getting worse each day but already unuseable.

Also, cannot be soft capped. Data count shows I have used way under fair usage limits.

Back on 3G. My ADSL is basically dead. Just checked my data usage for the month. 4 people trying to kill it....total 31GByte. Just keeps on getting slower and slower. Last month we used 60Gbyte. Completely unusable. My one friend, with a slower 2mbit/s line, still gets full speed and he is 100m up the street. My other friend gets soft capped at 110Gb.

I get slower speeds than dialup.
 
Somewhere, at Telkom, someone is sitting there %^&^& themselves, having fun.

I am currently updating a Debian system. Speed goes down to something horrible like 230bytes/s. This is on 4mbit/s upcapped home. Now I know that not upgrading to business entitles Telkom to throttle me into the ground but this is unacceptable.

Now for the fun part. I am looking at the screen and getting 233byte/s. Downloading a 4.629MB file. Sometimes it shoots up to 3 kbytes/s. Then I run Ookla speed test and I get a whopping 3mbit/s download speed. So it seems that the line is OK and that speed tests get priority. Not only that but when I am doing the speed test my download speed to my Debian download jumps to a staggering 30kbyte/s.

So my assessment is that some $%^& smartie pants over there has written a load algorithm to make the speed look good when a speed test is being performed. And then it also lets some more bandwidth through. Like now. 2.98mbit/s download and 0.68mbit/s upload (37ms ping). Speed on my download jumps to 8kbyte/s. After the test it goes down to 233bytes/s.

And another thing. It seems that the amount of data I am capable of downloading per month is going down. Like I stated in my previous post: In Feb our family tried our best to kill it and got around 60GB. The March was 30GB. If I am a going to reach 15GB in April then I would consider myself lucky.

I have been watching my screen and adding text here every few minutes. Downloaded 1.3Mbyte so far. About 15 minutes. Doing another speed test and getting 16.7kbytes/s download. 2.34mbit/s on OOkla. Test done. Data slow again.

Telkom, I know this is the "cheap" version of uncapped but for $%^&* sakes I must be entitled to something faster than dialup. Sure I can impress my friends with my solid 2 to 4 mbit/s Ookla speed tests but apart from that it is friggen useless.
