do they not run from shortcuts or when you double click them in Explorer, or both?
Sounds to me like there is something funny on the profiles of your pc, something might have screwed them up, unfortunately, I have no solution except this one : format c: /q
But I am pretty sure online they have a more practical solution
I told you that it is a shot in the dark, and I have no answer for that. But it is easy enough to look under your file associations to see that.
When I right click on an exe, the first choice in my menu is "Open" in bold indicating that it is ther double click default. And underneath that is Run As.
If this menu pops up automatically, it could mean that you have configured your mouse for a left handed person.
What happens if you use alt-tab to switch to them? On one system I use through remote desktop, it loadfs an extra language bar onto the start menu which eventually hides the active application area as well as system tray and you cannot use it to navigate to these apps.
What applications do this? Are they perhaps minimizing to your system tray on start up and your system tray is not showing?

Have you by any chance enabled a second desktop under your screen settings?
If you only have one monitor your programs might be appearing on your second desktop but you can't see them cos you might only have one monitor.
Go to Display Properties, settings, and check to see if there is a second monitor enabled. If it is,click on it and then uncheck the box that says Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.
If it's not that, then are you running any other Virtual Desktop software? maybe Microsoft's virtual desktop through Tweakui or Power Toys?
Also go into your firewall settings and see what is check and unchecked there.
lastly, create a new profile and move all your info to the new profile, then log into it and delete the old profile.
that's all I can think of now![]()
I have had this problem with Creative live 5.1 software - when you run a prog its running - but you can't see it or use it. Fixed it by uninstalling the software and drivers and re-installing from scratch.
I know you running xp,but i seem to get a lot of those residing in the memory deals,Firefox.exe cant work with my vista.Yahoo messenger sometimes dont work and just sits there in the memory.
SOLUTION:
disable your firewall,i mean really disable everything.
THere is a virus that attacks the exe of all your apps.My avg did not pick it up,But on vista it did( i dual boot 4 times a day).
i had to download a special remover to fix and destroy the virus(win32 virus..etc)
get xp to see all hidden files and folders and check your program files to see if there are strange files in all your apps that look outta da place
Have you messed with file permissions lately? Last time my PC pulled stunts like that the programs could not access some files.
It would also explain why "Run-as" works.
try restoring your system to a previous date...
Use a good AV cleaner like nod32..
If still nothing...stop making noise and reinstall... wont take u long.![]()
