Hi

So I started using Champix exactly 3 weeks ago today. The results are as follows:

Pre-Champix Background
------------------------

Smoker for 10 years. About a 3/4 of a pack to a full pack a day.
Quit cold turkey for about a whole year. **** happened and started again in 2008.

Results
-------

Definitely works. I haven't smoked a cigg for about 1 week & 1 day already. No cravings and now just focusing on making it a habit (in my mind) that I am not a smoker. Slight psychological cravings kick in when I am bored. Boredom led to a lot of smoking but nothing I can't handle.

After the first week of usage I felt the difference immediately. Champix blocks the nerve transmitters that process nicotine. So I was smoking but I was not feeling the nicotine effect on me. 1,2,3,4 ciggs one after each other and it felt like I never smoked at all. I know this sounds counter intuitive but it really works. If you not getting your nicotine fix even if you try makes it a lot easier to want to stop the habit altogether. I was smoking less and less with each day going by. Just never felt for cigg's anymore.

After the first week decided to not buy packs of smokes anymore and make my final transition into a non-smoker.
Its now 2 weeks since then and I am clean for a whole week. No cravings at all. Just need 3 weeks under my belt and I am A and away!

Side Effects
-------------

Slight nausea when you switch to the 1mg dose after 3 days. Insanely vivid dreams from the word go. I know others call it nightmares but honestly its just much more vivid dreams. If you can control your dream state you can have a lucid trip you've never ever experienced before. Insanely awesome! But overall it messed up my sleep for the first 1.5 weeks. Extreme exhaustion in the first 3-5 days. Eyes were very heavy but the mind was wide awake. Very weird feeling. The mess in sleep and exhaustion caused an insane Twitch in my right eye. Was aggravated by caffeine in take. Went away after a week or so.
I guess a small price to pay. Short term pain for long term gain.

I must admit that this is not for those with weak minds. If you the type of person who already has mental problems or are mentally fragile I would not suggest it. This will just throw you over the edge. If you suck at endurance than don't go this route. I personally feel the side effects are childs play (excluding the vivid dreams) but others may feel differently.

Conclusion
-----------

I quit before Cold Turkey and I won't do it again. Horrible feeling and it just sucks. Champix is making it a walk in the park compared to cold turkey. No more smokers cough in the morning. Wife is extremely happy. I feel good and I am looking forward to a smoke free life :) Good good I hope :)

Overall it definitely works. If you a smoker and genuinely want to quit this habit than Champix is your best bet!

You need a prescription from a GP/Doctor.

Its a 3 month course. I paid about R400 at Dischem for the 1 month starter pack.

Great, keep it up.

Had some people over last night and we sat on the balcony and they smoked. I almost puked (me = ex smoker).

I used it for a month and stopped for 2 months, now I'm smoking again (much less than before, 10 now compared to 25).
I suggest you do the entire course, I attribute my fail to only doing the course for a month.

Thanks I will definitely keep that in mind. I was only thinking of doing 2 months. Your comments leave food for thought.

Do the whole course bud.. whats a couple Rands compared to your healthy future?

In many cases the future will be a straitjacket in a padded room, (actually not a bad idea for many forumites ) or more tragically ...a pine box in the ground or shoved into a retort.
Please do your homework very very carefully before you decide on the Champix route.

Tried it, didn't work. Also got R400 pack from clicks. Experienced nausea and tiredness. Didn' t even feel like decreasing the smokes.(On 20-a-day)

I used quit spray, stopped overnight from 2 packs a day 8 years or so a go, never looked back. Lot of things will work if you want to quit, just need to be ready.

How often and for what duration did you use the quit spray?

Smoker for 17 years. Only on day 4 but Champix does help. For me its not as drastic as moosag. It removes about 50% of the craving. It really does help though.

Definitely nausea if you dont eat before you take it, but other than that its fine.

How do we get this? Cost involved?

My husband started taking Champix in October 2013. End of November he had his first seizure. He was hurt and had to be admitted to hospital. Three weeks ago he had a seizure while driving and ended up in ICU. He is 39 years old and never had a seizure in his life. I will never touch Champix and will tell anyone who wants to take it to never, ever take even one pill. My husband is on epilepsy medicine for the rest of his life and he is not permitted to drive now. STAY AWAY FROM CHAMPIX PEOPLE

Do you work for the group who manufactures Zyban?

/Successful Champex user here. Stopped for around 3 years now.

I would reallly like to try this. My husband stopped for around 2 years now. But nervous as I suffer from chronic depression and don't want to mess with my head too much

Forget all these Nicotine Replacement Therapy routes. Spend R100 or so (I got the ebook) and read the Alan Carr book. Read it properly and thoroughly.

My OH has the book. However, I have no self discipline and I hate self-help books.

How much did OP get paid to publicise this?
