Hi,

I have a 20mb line which is currently syncing at 18mb up and 1mb down. Modulation is ADSL2+ Annex A

I want to benefit from the higher upload speeds as I upload a lot of work.
My router is a Asus DSL-AC68U which supports VDSL2/ADSL2+/ADSL2/ADSL which gives me the option to manually change the modulation type and annex mode. If I set it to VDSL2 it only syncs to 10mb down and 1mb up.

Do I need to phone Afrihost and tell them to change the modulation/port to VDSL? Or is me changing the modulation on my router the same thing?

Just be careful what you wish for.

I did this exact same thing a while back.

After Telkom changed the modulation to VDSL on their end, the VDSL modem just refused to sync with the DSLAM, no matter what. Tested another modem to make sure the 1st one wasn't faulty, but same result.

Decided to just drop it and ask for it to be changed back to ADSL modulation. For some reason no-one at Telkom could do that, and I had to struggle for a week to get an hold of someone on the social media team who could do it.

Never again.

Now do all my uploads with the 500GB Telkom night surfer special @ 25Mb/s upload speeds.

Update:

Just to answer your question:

Yes, Afrihost will have to ask Telkom to change the modulation to VDSL on their end as well.

Did you change your WAN type from ATM to PTM when you had it changed to VDSL? I just read now that 1 person did that and it worked . .
