Does any know if it possible, and if so how, to change the IP address

I am using Telkom as IS with a 105WR telkom router and would like to change my IP address

May I ask why you want to change your IP? There are different ways to go about doing it, depending on why you want to do it...

The normal way would be to disconnect your account/router, wait a few minutes or something and then reconnect. IPs are handed out on a first come first served basis so when you disconnect, your IP would hopefully be allocated to someone else while you are waiting. So then when you reconnect you get a brand spanking new IP. This works better during peak times than eg. at night though - more people re/connecting in the day time than at night.

That's pretty much it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am chatting in a chat room and there is a weirdo now stalking me in pvt every time my IP pops up in the room.

You can change the LAN IP address to pretty much any private IP range that you please: 10.* / 172.16.0.0-172.31.255.255 / 192.168.*

You can't change your WAN IP address which is automatically given by the PPPoE connection that your router makes to the ISP.
The only way that you might be able to change it is to disconnect & connect again.

The following doesn't make any sense:
I am using Telkom as IS
You can rent your ADSL from Telkom and then use an IS (Internet Solutions) account for your Internet connection.

Update:
Could you perhaps tell us what chat program you're using, because IRC servers do allow you to change/hide your IP.
... and you can simply ignore/mute the person as well.

This.

And also where you are chatting. The program would not matter that much, it would depend on the IRC server. Assuming of course you are chatting in an IRC chatroom... some IRC servers allows you to hide behind a mask or something like that... sheesh, feels like decades since I've last used IRC. :o

if memory serves IRC was invented years before the web. did you know spyware like back office announces the current IP of the infected computer to a hidden IRC chan? just thought it's a pretty clever way for the spy/stalker to keep track of the machines he managed to compromise even if their IPs are dynamic.

If you are using static ip address, you can change only on requesting internet service provider. If it is dynamic ip address, you can change it easily by resetting the router. you can also use Proxy server or Hide ip address software to change the ip address.

To check the ip address before and after changing, Visit the site IP-details.com Here you can search IP,domain host and it also includes city, country, global latitude & longitude coordinates etc.
