So here is my dilemma, i got a 4mbs line from telkom but it only gets 1.5mbs at the most, for the first few months it worked well and i got my 4mbs, but for the past few months it just gives me crap, i have posted router stats and have changed my router and still no joy. So i think of applying for a new line and telling them to change the cable point outside my house to the next one which is the same distance away from the other. Does anyone think that this will work as well as it did before or will it make a difference to my line speed, because its used for online gaming and it sucks when i am unable to host a local game.

It might, it might not. Its a bit of a gamble. Depends on where the issue is.

Get the 2nd line, if its better cancel the old one. If not cancel the worst line. Either way you gonna pay twice for a while.

It will not work. They will use the same line for your "new" installation.

Your only way is to bitch continually and escalate every fault report over and over again.

eventually it will get put before a quality group that will then inspect.

(or at least that's how it worked for me last year)

i exceded a certain number of complaints & eventually my equipment was inspected & then outside 'til the fault was found.

much better. :)

due to the number of complaints (trust me there were MANY of us complaining) they built a new street box next to the old box, moved everyone's lines over. & they drained the manhole between the box & the exchanged & replaced/repaired water soaked joints.
Further info on the manhole: apparently the joints in there are done so that they are waterproof. The problem comes in when you have people climbing in there to pilfer phone calls off your &/or other peoples lines. Multiple lines go through a join. The helpful people cut the waterproofing to access the lines inside & when the manhole does get flooded the water gets into the joints

(or something like that, was 8-10 months ago)

the process took approx 3-4 months from 1st complaint to final repair.

wow thats sounds awesome, but one problem i think that i am the only person in my road with a 4mbs line, so i am all alone on this one.

I have had a very similar issue, see this thread. Really frustrating.

I know what you mean bro, i just call the manager of the department and he keeps giving me the same BS that everything is fine on the line. Is there any way we can get proper answers?
