We are pleased to announce the following latest improvements to our ADSL* service:

  • Hourly usage updates without disconnection, providing more accurate usage statistics to our customers.
  • The ability to disconnect accounts immediately when the cap is reached.
  • DSLSecure, enabling dsl accounts to be bound to 4 specific telephone lines, reducing the risk of account abuse.
These updates have allowed us to discontinue the dynamic timeout policy we had to previously employ, thus all connections are now only limited to the 24h disconnection policy imposed by SAIX.

We are also currently in the process of introducing a new account management interface for our ADSL (SAIX and IS) and Dialup users, which may be found at http://dsl.webafrica.co.za for our clients and http://dsl.wadns.net for our resellers. Should you be one of our users please feel free to test it out.

We appreciate any and all feedback and look forward to future updates that will further enhance our service offering.

Thank you for your continued support.

* Changes only apply to our SAIX-based accounts.

The ability to disconnect accounts immediately when the cap is reached.

How can this be nice?
Have you lost the plot or something?
We the MYADSL community want everything for free plus more!
Now the ISP's have the ability to cut us off and not allowing us to go over our caps, that's sic man!

Let the FLAMES to my post begin :p

These changes are all great. I tried out the new interface. I had to login with my adsl auth details and not the client area details, which wasn't what I expected. The interface seems really nice. Is it done in dotnet?

I also tried to enable dslsecure but its a bit confusing. I couldn't figure out how to enter allowed numbers. Can you explain how this works?

Edit: I just saw an error message at the bottom of the screen: "There was an error when attempting to update your account information, as DSLSecure can only be enabled from one of the ADSL lines currently connected to this account (Your IP address is ***.***.**.***)." Maybe make this a bit more prominent (red text with a nice error icon perhaps?) as it can be easily overlooked.

It mentions "manage your Internet account", "secure your ADSL account" - I think that would hint towards entering your ADSL account username and password and not your client area login.

Err. If you haven't paid for more than x GB, obviously you should be disconnected. If you go over without knowing, you get billed extra - not something everyone wants.

Stupid post.

Looks good, but I hope you will make it easy to manage several adsl logins on the same account without having to login to each one separately.

I also hope you will make the interface secure with https, or those passwords could be stolen.

Dude... This is quite sweet.

Is this because they use their own Radius Authentication servers or can all ISPs offer the same stuff on their accounts ?

I would actually suggest that they go with the client area login. If someone hack your ADSL user name and password, they could quite easily log into WA and add additional numbers / remove blocking of numbers etc and still burn the account.

Cheers

DSLSecure can only be managed/disabled from a line that has already been allowed access to the system via DSLSecure. Hence the requirement that when you first enable it you do it from a line that is currently connected to that account.

It would be quite silly if just anyone with your username and password was capable of managing DSLSecure.

I have DSLSecure enabled for my home line. How do I add a second Line Port for DSLSecure? On the 'Authentication' page on the DSL Console I can see that I have 3 DSLSecure line port slots available but there is no info on how to add another line port.

You must first log into the account with the line you wish to allow, once you have done that you will see it on your list of lines that have connected in the past, then just check the line you wish to allow.

If you had one line acticated with DSLSecure and you went to a friends and used it there, would it logon because it hasnt used the full 4 lines yet, or will it add the friends line to the list, but with a red cross?
