Changing CPU

What? Who would leave their pc on? or are you talking from experience, got shocked as a baby lol.

You won't believe it but I've seen someone plug in and out a graphics card while the PC is powered up!!!!!! and no harm was done to the thing !!! It just needed a reset afterwards.

Thats bit insane, would not try that under any circumstance.

Follow the instructions from one of the Arctic Silver products for applying thermal paste, does not matter which product you actually choose, the important part is to apply the correct method for the chip you intend using ...

http://www.arcticsilver.com/instructions.htm

Hope that helps ...

Cheers

I use the same method (half grain rice in middle) for all my chips no matter what make and i have had no problems :)

If you put so little in the middle, does it cover the whole CPU (obviously is spreads but does it go to the corners?) ?

i dont put any thermal compound on my cpu, i rub it clean with acetone, apply compound to the heatsink base instead. much easier to work with, then just plant it from there . . .

but thatz just my way of doin it. not claiming itz the best way to do it, just more convenient for me.

What does too much thermal paste do ?

yep, overheating because too much paste will retain the heat instead of it being passed through the heatsink as efficiently as possible
