Hi guys.

Currently my Galaxy S is running Android 2.2.1. Is rooted
PDA = JS5
Phone = XJPY
CSC = XJS4

I have noticed that my battery life is crap since the 2.2.1 update - can get about a day on moderate use.

I have read that the modem makes a big difference towards battery life.

Any advise on the best Galaxy modem software for SA (on Vodacom)

Also, is it possible just to change / flash the modem?

Thanks!

I have a Galaxy S. I found the biggest battery saver was switching off WiFi when not in use, then to a lesser degreee switching off 3G. Doing this gave me much better battery life, ie. 3 days instead of 1.

Darky's ROM v9.5 really does seem to have better battery life overall on day to day basis for me. Admittedly I was given advice to swith off HSDPA cause the phone searching for and switching between between HSDPA and 3G drains battery. One can switch it off by dialling *#301279#

PDA: I9000XWJS8
Phone: I9000XXJVE
CSC: I9000XXJS1
Kernel: Dark Core 1.0

Thanks for the info!

My wifi is switched off when not used. I prefer HSDPA for the speed, so that stays on.

I am kinda hesitant to flash to Darky's - bricked my phone the previous time i tried this.

I keep my wifi on virtually all day unless I'm spending the largest portion away from my wifi networks. With darkys it is virtually 4 clicks and hsdpa is switched on or off. I use opera mini mostly which is pretty quick as is and only switch on hsdpa when when I am going to need the extra speed for downloads, streaming, connecting other devices through my SGS for internet & etc.

Darky's ROM has been so easy to change or install everytime. I was nervous initially but I use Odin &Darky's resurrection package when things go wrong which was only once.
