Hi,

I am on a 2meg line with Telkom and also have a Telkom uncapped internet account, I've been on this set up for two years.

I've noticed that over the past month torrent downloads are being severely throttled until the early hours of the morning. I don't download much, just the occasional TV episode, (total monthly use is around 50 gig max, usually a lot less). This throttling of downloads was never the case before with Telkom and I'm now considering changing to a 50 gig, capped Afrihost account.

My question is; does anyone have any advice on changing? Would you recommend changing ISP's? Are Afrihost the best to go with? I have a free, 1 gig account with Afrihost and get full speed downloads if I use this account instead of my Telkom account, this is why I am considering moving over to Afrihost.

Any constructive advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Why not just let your torrents go over night? Most home uncapped packages work like that anyway.

Why not get a capped account? Telkom offer capped accounts with free usage after midnight if I'm not mistaken.

Anyone have any feedback on OpenWeb. I quite like their new capped data deals. Works out nice and cheap.

Current TI QoS seems to apply to both capped & uncapped accounts so the OP will have the same problem with torrents on capped :(

Ranger mentioned recently that they are reviewing P2P QoS but for the time being a capped account with another ISP is probably the best bet for torrents during daytime.

I think all ISPs are crap. Best is to find the least crap one and try them out.

Hmmm, ranger must be monitoring this thread, suddenly my daily UK soap torrents are flying on TI uncapped :)

Are their Business Uncapped shared? And what about their Capped services?

From what I've seen openweb capped is decent. The uncapped business accounts are just resold Afrihost accounts so I wouldn't go near them.

What's going on with Afrihost at the moment that everyone is recommending to stay away? Their double data on capped accounts seems like a great deal.

Their trial 2GB Account performs really decently ... I currently have Afrihost Business 10MB, so yeah, staying far away from that.

They've got capacity issues and it doesn't seem like they're doing much about it.

That's exactly why they are having issues. You get what you pay when you buy cheap.

Anyone dealt with VOX and the 50GB fatpipe????

Yes, I bought it to test it, got brilliant speeds, I'm just slightly scared of their out of bundle costs if I mismanage my downloads or something. R10/GB if you forget to topup after your caps done.

Still cheaper than Telkom R19/1GB if you go over your cap.
