Hey Afriguys

Why does it take so long to do a line speed change, we requested an line speed increase yesterday and still nothing.

But if you phone Telkom, it is instant... just sayin...

Heya pinkscorpio68. Are you referring to DSL or fibre line speed changes? DSL line speed upgrades can take up to 10 days to complete whereas fibre upgrades can be from 24 hours upwards. It really depends on the backlog of orders place vs how long it will take to process. When did you request your upgrade?

We applied on Tuesday to have the line speed of the DSL change from 2Mb to 4Mb.

Just the other day I assisted a friend who has his line with Telkom, we phoned in and boom, the change was done whilst we where online with the call.

It sounds like in this case, the change was made on an account level (with the account restricting throughput on the line), therefore, after the upgrade the change was immediate.

This can happen with us as well. Example: if you are on 8Mbps Uncapped, your line can be syncing at 10Mbps, but you will only get 8Mbps speeds due to to the limitations imposed by the data account. If you were to upgrade to 10Mbps Uncapped in ClientZone, the upgrade will be immediate due to the fact that the line was already on 10Mbps to begin with. If you were to request an upgrade to, say, 20Mbps, the order will need up to 10 days to be processed and completed on Openserve's side.

Just wait, 14 days and it will upgrade itself free of charge.

All the more reason to move our DSL line back to Telkom, we end up phoning Telkom direct in any case when there is a problem on the line. In the past year, I've never had Afrihost sort out my line when I've had problems on it, always the case of... we have logged a call and will revert back once the problem has been sorted... and I end up phoning Telkom and it gets sorted out almost same day!

You know, before the merge with MTN, Afrihost WAS the best, but since.......

I fear that you might be misunderstanding me. :( As mentioned above, the change can only be immediate if your line is already on that profile and the change only has to happen on your data account. If your physical line has to upgrade, the process may take a few days, regardless of who manages it.

There is no misunderstanding, only misunderstanding is why we have to wait 10 days just to increase the speed of the line......?

With today's technology, this feels like an eternity!

Openserve deal with a large amount of orders and sometimes a limited amount of available technicians in any area. It's important to note that the time frame is up to 10 days and can often happen sooner.

You won't be billed for the higher profile until it happens.

Still faster via Telkom, it's instant, effected before you terminate the call with the Consultant.

As I mentioned, that is likely because of a data account change while the line was already on the higher profile, not a physical line upgrade. The same is possible with Afrihost or any other ISP.
