Changing ownership from wesbank

Hey guys

Just a quick question

I've paid off my car. Wesbank has sent me all the required docs to change owner of car. I gave it to the one guy that sorts out my license disks and he said that I don't have to change it to my name if I finished paying the bank. I am the owner and the bank was the holder. Is this true that I don't have to change it to my name? He said if I want to sell it the new buyer must send it for roadworthy, other then that I don't have to change anything. I have that green and white paper that has all the car details and who owns the car etc. It says I am the owner and that wesbank is the title deeds holder(think that's what it says, it's at home now ) according to this guy I don't have to take it for roadworthy and change of ownership if I paid the bank off etc...if it was a private sale or something it would be a different story. does this seem correct? Also will this affect insurance in any way

You'll have to take those natis docs they sent you, along with proof of residence and a copy of your ID, to a licensing station and do a change of ownership.
 
You are the owner but you will have to change the title holder - think you have something like 20 or 30 days to do it after having received the documents from the bank. You do not have to take it for roadworthy. Cost for the title change is roughly R200 (depending on where you are).
 
Tell the one guy that gave you that advice that he is an idiot.

You HAVE to submit the documents the bank gave you to change the Titleholder into your name. You don't have to change ownership or do a roadworthy or anything of the sort.

I collected my Natis when the car was settled, but only did changes 13 months afterwards.

Lol no, not Dave. I will see what he does, should be done by Tom. Maybe I got confused so will wait to see what he has done. Thanks guys

Just a quick question

If you think logically about it for a second, does it sound right to you to have any entity other than yourself listed as a "title holder" on your vehicle?

I really thought in 2016 people would know the difference between "owner" and "title holder". Luckily mybb is there to educate.

Technically it's supposed to be the same thing, but the terms they use can be a bit confusing.

The title holder is the legal owner of the asset. The "owner" is the person responsible for using the asset...
 
You want to get this sorted. If you are not the title holder and a few years down the line you want to sell the car it is a mission to try and get the original enatis docs again and it causes so many headaches on a trade in. Best to just get it done now.

Quick question, but why did you trust this to someone else?

You should just go to the licensing bureau yourself and do it, then you KNOW it done right.
 
So he did everything to the T. Yip I trust him, good guy. Changed title deed to my name etc... Everything is sorted. I think I got confused so I started his thread for nothing. But thanks though
 
Hello, I just bought a vehicle the guy gave me the registration papers and licence disk papers and we signed a agreement but when I got home I had a look at the registration papers and noticed that wesbank is the title holder and the seller is the owner. The seller has the letter from the bank stating that the vehicle is paid up but would I still be able to register the vehicle onto my name while wesbank is listed as the title holder. I know this was a bit stupid of me not to check there and then but it is what is. What should I do now?
 
The seller will need to register the car in his name first.

I'd suggest you get the sellers ID and go to the license department and see what they say. Alternatively go see some privately owned dealership and they'll surely assist you but at some cost obviously.
