Charging on ADSL ports

Hi guys

hope you all well, need some advice got and ADSL router a netgear
with 4 ports for ADSL. what i would like to do is charge the bandwidth used on each port, as it is in the office multiple users are using it and Finance would like to split the bills

is there any program or firware update that will do this ?

I see 2 options:

1.) Use a bandwidth meter on each PC and allocate costs that way.

2.) Set the router to bridging mode and create seperate ADSL accounts for each PC.

going to load a picture of the router and model number been looking but dont see any bridging facilities ? let me see what model it is
 
yip, as soulman says, set to bridge mode and create the pppoe connections from each pc, each user gets their own isp bandwidth to use and then they cap themselves :D I use it at home with my 2 brothers and it works like a charm!
 
otherwise use an old pc and install smoothwall on it. You set the router to bridge mode and everyone connects through the smoothwall. It will tell you who has used what and give reports etc.

smoothwall ? brilliant is this a free app ? fantastic thanks buddy

but one thing i have like 4 ADSL modems around the office in diffrent cabinets
going to need 4 extra machine to run the apps hey ?
 
Smoothwall is actually an operating system based on linux.. dont worry though its dead simple. It basically acts as a firewall that shares an internet connection. are all of the various routers you have on the same network? it might be fairly difficult to get all of that consolidated. Any reason you have 4 of em?

Im just trying to get it into my head as to what will work best for you.

I use the smoothwall setup in some B&B's that offer internet access and then charge for it afterswards and its also nice cos you can use it to block porn etc too.
 
well i have 16 users who need ADSL in diffrent offices so i have 4 ADLS routers
thing is 1 is upstairs 1 is next to the front gate they all separated far apart :(

but im going to give it a shot will def let you know thanks buddy thanks to everyone who helped me out

Just keep in mind that if you only use one ADSL line a single user can use ALL of the bandwidth leaving the others out in the cold. You will have to setup so each user is allocated say 1Mb/s on a 4Mb/s line.
 
When you guys say bridged mode on pppoe

does this mean that each user will have to have a user account will allocated bandwidth ? or just a username and password all using the same cap ?
 
Each one will have to have an account.
you can get more than one to use the same account but then you wont be able to bill them as you wont know who used what.

you can use a service provider like CIS, they basically charge you for DSL used, so you dont subscribe to a gb value each month, you just pay what you use. Then each of them gets an acc like that and its easy to do billing then.
