Now you're going to spend the rest of the day checking out guys crotches :p

It's funny looks I'm going to get in return that makes it weird. I'll have a valid excuse though - religion research or stats ...or something.

I also don't believe in giving money to beggars. food; yes. money NO.
I used to give them until I offered one a domestic job and she refused. Blatantly told me she makes a lot more begging. most of them, especially the ones with babies, are not looking for honest jobs. some are being dropped off by cars in the morning and picked up later.

I remember a few years back people were making such a big fuss when everyone just found out about Ruyterwacht and one lady here in Melkbos even started a charity drive just for them. It was very amusing because many black people have been living under the same, if not worse, conditions in townships for decades and none of these people batted an eyelid.

Suppose you could give to whomever you prefer. I just find that the poor tend to have so many children

Today I had a lady selling bubble liquid at a stop sign.
She said her name was fareeda, that she's a good muslim who doesn't drink and smoke.

A) what is the point of telling me that shes a muslim and claiming to have good moral values?
is it to convince me to buy from her?
is it an attempt at trying to extort empathy from me? (I don't feel empathy like most people anyway)
It makes absolutely no sense to me...

B) I don't like donating money to beggars on the street,
most people I know claim that they don't know if the money will be used correctly, i.e. it'll be used for drugs and alcohol.

I have a similar reservation, I'd rather donate to a charitable organization, but also I simply don't feel anything for beggars on the street, regardless of age or gender.
which makes me wonder, if you do give money to beggars on the street, why?
Kindly explain your reasoning, I see no reason to do so.

a) Yes. Sympathy/Empathy "Ag Shame" gets them a LOT of money
b) You're right in not giving money to beggars, I usually donate directly to children's homes where I know the money will be spent wisely and ignore big organizations as I know that as little as 5% of my donation only makes it to the actual person in need.

I do give food to them though, but "shocker", most of them choose not to take what I offer and asks for money instead. Beggars, in this country (apparently), can be choosers

Feel nothing for the lazy savages.

They could make their own money. The guys on the side of the road that wait for gardening jobs refuse to take the job for less that R100-R150 a day. These people could offer the same service for R90-R125 a day and be employed forever. But they won't.

I'll start handing out money to them when someone pays me to do nothing all day. I have no problem looking them in the eye and making them feel ashamed because I'm willing to get up early and go to a job while they stand around and get a tan/darker complexion.

Then what's the problem and why did you say in the OP that it makes no sense to you?

Beggars manipulate people, whether it's trying to appeal to your good side, make you feel bad, pretend to be disabled, etc. It's all a game of manipulation.
I guess it makes sense now, that she was trying to manipulate me by trying to make me empathize with her.
I was surprised really, since I don't get this empathy thing very well.
but it makes sense now after a bit of thinking.
How'd she know you were a muslim?
Because I have a beautiful thick Arabic beard

They pull the Christian line on me from time to time.

"God will bless you"
"Praise Jesus"
and other nonsense...

I've been known to laugh and tell them I would have given them some money if they'd said they wanted it for drugs.
