Hi everyone :)

I need some advice regarding fencing. I need a really cheap way to fence my garden so that my rabbits don't escape. Unfortunately these guys are escape artists... they can squeeze through really tiny holes! But I don't want to spend a fortune on fencing because walls are going to be put up in the next year or two.

Would chicken mesh be strong enough to use as fencing? Could I just plant some fence poles and put the chicken mesh between them, or would the mesh be too "soft"? I know it's quite flexible, so I'm worried that it will just bend over.

Or does anyone have any cheaper ideas? "Jakkals draad" is cheaper, but the holes are too big.

I don't know anything about keeping rabbits but I would suggest that you also dig whatever fence you are going to use into the ground so that they cannot burrow underneath it.

And from what I know chicken mesh should be more than strong enough. The distance between your posts will determine whether it will sag or not. Maybe just add a supporting horizontal wire halfway up and at the top if your posts are a distance apart so that it will support your chicken mesh, i.e. like a normal fence will be setup.

You will probably need a combo of chicken mesh and normal fencing wire... and some fence dropper poles.

You will need to dig a trench so that the fencing wire/chicken mesh is partial buried underground, or the rabbits will just dig under it.

Yup, dig a trench about half a meter down.Chicken wire should work.

Look into welded mesh, stronger than chicken mesh but more expensive.

Fencing is a fun sport. I'd recommend joining a club. You can rent gear.

Had a rabbit run for many years. We used chicken wire and it worked just fine. Holes are too small to squeeze through (except maybe if you have babies) and it's too thick for them to chew through.

However, as has been stated previously, you do have to extend the wire a good half-meter or so (at least 30cm) underground otherwise the rabbits will simply dig their way out under the fence. Chicken wire also isn't that expensive.

Not necessary especially since its just a temporary thing until he gets a wall up,welded mesh is significantly more pricey.
hehe next year or two usually turns into 4-5years, but that is only my experience.
