i've read here somewhere that ink is more expensive than alcohol.
to bad my printer don't like it.

I've recently heard obout CISS (continuous ink supply system)
Now, have anyone got a clue where in south africa i can get hold of one?

Ive spent the entire afternoon googling for it with no luck.
I've stumbled apon a tread from 2006 about it and surely in two years it might be possible that SA got hold of it.

I've got an HP L7680 officejet pro, where it costs normally R235 for the original 88xl colour ( 17ml). I can't handle the price anymore.
I've taken a chance and refilled the original and it printed the refilled 17ml as well but expired thereafter.

i'm prepared to buy a epson or canon or whatever make or model printer it needs to be in order to get the CISS.

But as a short term solution i'll be gratefull for any info on how to save more $$$.

I've enquired about generics for the 88 but it's not avail. yet.
Anyone got an idea when they might become avail?

Or on chip resetters or stick-on chips or whatever it may be.
There is a rumour that hp original cartridges can't be reset, it have to be generics or oem or ? Is it true?

Any and all info welcome.

Do you think that rather a continous alcohol supply system would be more rewarding in the end? LOL. Just horsing around :)

Seriously, why is printer ink so expensive? Was just googling but got bored. Apparently there is an HP printer for which the ink costs $13,600 per gallon

Switch to laser, ink is so outdated...

I would but they are too expensive to start with.
My HP can print 900 pages on the 88xl black (or so it sais, havn't tested it yet)
The cheap laser printers are about on par with that.

CISS would be the answer to high ink prices so why is it so darn hard to get hold of one?

You can get a mono laser Samsung for about R599 if you look hard enough and the toner should be under R600 as well which generally gives 2000 pages or more ;)

I have the canon ip4200 printer, which use chipped cartridges. I bought Calidrad cratridges, which they said work, if you take off the original cartridge's chip, and paste it onto the new generic one. But now the printer can't see if the cartridge is full or empty. Mine isn't even so expensive than the hp, but still too much for me.

I need to print photo's and i'm thinking of printing on cd's as well.

Does anyone know of a all in one printer that can print on cd's as well.
All i could find is the HP c5283 but i'd prefer canon or epson (in case CISS get here).

Can the original chip be reset?
All you need is a resetter, Epson can even be reset using a small program.:)
Don't know if canon has it too or if it'll work.

I have the HP 1020 laser printer. On the original cartridge (received with my printer, which is only 50% full), I printed 2500 pages and it's still not finished (The printer costs 900 and a new cartridge R650-R700). Starting to lighten out ever so slightly, but still more than fine.

If you want to print the occasional colour, have a look at the Epson range of printers. I've never heard of a crappy colour Epson printer, no matter how cheap they are.

Lexor, I've had a look at the printer, couple of reviews as well.

Looks like a good printer, but sadly its not an all in one.

I'm completely and utterly dissapointed in the HP L7680.
Its a nice printer, but if you're going to print more than 2 pages a week i'll recommend getting something else.

I'm spending about R2000 every month on 2 sets of cartridges and a printhead.

Why do you want an all in one so bad? Just buy a scanner, you'll get 70% better quality from a stand alone scanner in any event, need a fax machine? Buy one.

The Epson R 290 Looks good, also not all in one though.
Anyone got a good laser mono all in one? preferably under R1K.

C'os buying all three seprarately costs a lot more than an all in one.

Plus its so much easier just to press copy and let it spit out 100 copies than going thru a pc.

Hi, I am about to order the Epson CISS for the Epson R270. This printer prints directly on CD's. .

Would the CISS for the R 270 work with the R 290? Is the correct ink avail.?
I'm about to buy a hp laser copier but i still need a good photo printer.

I've had a big shock yesterday when i was told only hp and samsung laser printer's cartridges can be remanufactured. When the HP inkjet L7680 ( the one i've got) would never have generic cartridges as HP got a patend on them.
Can anyone confirm this please.
