Hi Everyone. I'm starting this thread to discuss & share cheap & innovative load shedding solutions, specifically simple ideas which can circumvent the multitude of often costly off-the-shelf solutions.

First idea - powering your internet router. If your home has an alarm system or CCTV, chances are that you already have a capable 12VDC power supply with battery backup installed. With a simple bit of DIY, this can also keep your router alive uninterrupted during power cuts.

I am new to this so if a similar thread already exists I apologize for the oversight.

Welcome to MyBB, enjoy your stay.

There are various other threads already on the load shedding and backup power theme, no need for another one.

Cheap for me as I was given 2x102aH batteries a few years ago. I also have a 24v battery charger.

Connected to this on each battery is my 12v fiber box and 12v WiFi router.

As you can see batteries are at 25.1v and I recharge them each Sunday night.

My outlay was R0.00
