Hi all,

anyone know where i can find Ram for my macbook that doesn't cost a fortune?

Memory card specifications:
- Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
- 30mm (1.18 inch)
- 4 GB
- 204-pin
- PC3-10600 DDR3 1333 MHz type RAM

i am based in JHB

Regards

Any DDR3 RAM will do... Seriously... Any. Match the pair, get 1333MHz, install yourself, profit. I've used Transcend and OWC no issues.

I dont think you can put any apple product and the word cheap in once sentence.

I had 8GB Corsair Vengeance in mine, which has now been replaced by 16GB - also Corsair Vengeance.

Find the one you're considering - google it to get an Amazon.com hit result - and then pop over there, and CMD+F for Macbook - you're bound to find reviewers confirming they've installed it in theirs. If it's similar to your model, then you're golden.

thanks guys,
i have a late 2011 15 inch macbook pro.
so max i can get is 8gigs according to apple?

so best to get 2x 4 gig cards

AFAIK Apple only guaranteed 8GB as workable, but that didn't stop countless peeps from installing 16GB, only to report it worked flawlessly. Google a bit - pretty sure the 2011 can handle 16GB.

You should be able to use 16GB in a 2011+ macbook - just make sure to get notebook memory and not PC Dimms - they are different sizes.

Ja - I nearly made that mistake. SO-Dimm and 204 pin, if memory serves.

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM. Bought the RAM from Esquire and installed it myself. Works great.

I can also confirm 16GB works fine on 2011 MBP's. Any DDR3 RAM will work. I used Samsung or Hynix when I had my 2011 model. Never had any problems. Wasn't really cheap though. Dimms were around R1100 each for 8GB modules, IIRC.

I was lucky. Got my 16GB for just over R800. That before the exchange rate went down the toilet.
