Hi guys,

I need to buy a cheap motherboard for a friend (R700-R800). What do you think is the best motherboard within that price range.

Thanks and merry Xmas :)

Foxconn G31MX-K, supports everthing you can expect it to at R600. Don't know any others more in that price range...

Thanks guys, would you notice a performance difference in the FSB speeds being different - the one being 1600 and the other being 1033

OK thanks guys,
Are there any shops in Cape Town (besides Take 2) that stock the Asus?

The Foxconn G31MX-K is practically the same as the Asus, but for R150 less. Foxconn also has a 3yr warranty.

G31 is a very good board for the price. I have the Gigabyte with a E5200 & HD4850 and performs on par with boards over a R1000 more. If you don't need the extra features of the more expensive boards don't waste your money. Only weekness I can think of is not a great overclocker(to be expected in this price range).

Thanks for the replies guys but now I need to ask you a question, if you had to choose the board that performed the fastest what one would you buy?

I am more familiar with ASUS in general, so I would lean towards it. Memory graphics card compatibility should also be marginally better with the ASUS, since ASUS ships much higher volumes than foxconn.

Also, I can confirm that the ASUS's lan adapter does not have the slow Vista network copy bug. My friend can copy from my PC at a nice 78MB/s, where his hard drive cant go any faster.
