Hi,

Looking for a cheapish smartphone for my son. Must have WhatsApp. Have a preference for Samsung brand, but other recommendations welcome.

What about the Samsung Pocket? R899 with Vodacom. Just remember to take your proof of address and ID book with.

The Samsung Pocket is great. I got one for my daughter. Has everything they could want. Easy to root and can expand storage with micro-SD card.

Nokia lumia 610 is sub R2000 but if you child is under 10 the pocket will do just fine the small screen of the pocket is suffice for their tiny fingers

moto defy leaves that samsung pocket light years behind.
better screen, better specs, easy to root, scratch proof, water proof etc etc..
R999 at IC.

the pocket just feels cheap!

How does the battery life compare. it does seem like a good buy!

Look let’s be honest: the defy battery life is not great. I use setVsel to underclock the processor on standby and get 2 days at the most. My son had a pocket for about a month: the screen was terribly scratched and it kept rebooting due to water damage. His defy is now 6 months old and the screen only has one small crack.
