Cheap Smartphone?

Hi,

Looking for a cheapish smartphone for my son. Must have WhatsApp. Have a preference for Samsung brand, but other recommendations welcome.

The Samsung Pocket is great. I got one for my daughter. Has everything they could want. Easy to root and can expand storage with micro-SD card.

The Samsung Pocket is the latest status symbol for kids. I just did an upgrade for a 16yr old where he wanted a Samsung Pocket if I could not get him a Blackberry.

How does the battery life compare. it does seem like a good buy!

I like the specs of the Motorola Defy... I might even get it as a backup phone.

The kids like the Samsung Pocket more.... Cool factor.

Look let’s be honest: the defy battery life is not great. I use setVsel to underclock the processor on standby and get 2 days at the most. My son had a pocket for about a month: the screen was terribly scratched and it kept rebooting due to water damage. His defy is now 6 months old and the screen only has one small crack.
