Hey Guys, looking for something similar and practical for this use:

I currently have a small p4 pc upstairs that surves as a streaming device, its irriating, makes a noise and if I could shrink it into something smaller I would.

So I'm looking for something cheap, a streaming device that can accept a USB, HDMI(optional), Audio, and most import accepts a LAN connection...

Iv look around and those mx(something) streamers are crazy expensive and the next best thing is those Xtreamers, but if there are other options I'd like to explore some more before I jump into it..

Thanks in advance
Justin

WD Live TV Plus might suit your requirements. Runs Linux under the hood, has been hacked quite a bit, so you can probably customise it to your requirements.

Another option would be to get the A.C. Ryan Playon HD2 device. Here is its specs: http://www.playonhd.com/en/?upn=products&subpage=playonhd2&info=specs
I don't have that device myself, so I can't comment much on it.

The device goes for about R1700 in SA, unless you can get it from Esquire.

Someone is currently selling theirs on Carbonite: http://www.carbonite.co.za/f13/c-ryan-playon-hd2-1tb-drive-15305/index2.html
I think you'll just need to buy a HDD for it?

Update:
Another alternative would be to get a Samsung BluRay player with 100Mbps Ethernet + USB, which you can get for like R1300: http://www.hificorporation.co.za/product/1034386/samsung-bluray-player-bd-d5300-5100/ *
Here is its specifications: http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/co...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
* I'm not 100% sure that its the D5300 version though.
My dad has a whole Samsung Home Theater system with a BluRay player like that one and I've streamed BluRay rips over the network, as well as from a 1TB portable HDD.
