Hi,

I just got to Bangkok and was exploring the different ways I could connect to the internet while Im here. I'm staying in a hotel so I cant go for adsl. However I did look at their prices and they just depress me even more about how much we pay back in South Africa.

Connectivity Charges (excludes line rental which is about R30 per month, but including VAT of 7%):

down/up (kb/s)
256/128 R113
512/256 R150
1024/512 R165
2048/512 R247
4096/512 R395

Line rental is separate because you pay that to a PSTN supplier - the charges above are for an ISP. There are no cap or shaping (at least thats what they say, but I'm sure they do some sort of bandwidth management when there is the need to).

However, since I can't get to an adsl line I've gotten myself onto gprs/edge on one of the gsm network here. I got 15 days unlimited connectivity for about R90. So far everything is going great. I'm only using for instant messenging, email and some web browsing stuff. Everything seems fast except for South African website of course :(..
