Paris — A Samsung phone user in France says her Galaxy J5 smartphone caught fire and exploded. The model is different from the Galaxy Note 7 that has been recalled worldwide.

Lamya Bouyirdane told The Associated Press that on Sunday she noticed the phone was very hot after she asked her four-year-old son to pass it over. She said she threw the phone away when she realized it had "swollen up" and smoke was coming out. The phone then caught fire and the back of the handset blew off. Her partner quickly extinguished it.

Bouyirdane, who resides in the southwestern French city of Pau, said she will sue Samsung.

Samsung recently recalled millions of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones because of a problem that caused the batteries to overheat and catch fire.

Some More Samsung Flops

I just bought the new J5 for my daughter. Just hope it doesn't catch fire.

Ha! I am vindicated! SS deserve to go under completely! They ignored this systemic problem in their product design for years!

All they need now is to be the cause of a kid's death! That will be the end of their entire product line and the company!

And Apple and any other manufacturer that has had phones do this...?

Happened to my S4 a few months ago, the battery was as hot as hell and double the thickness, popped the back cover.

Thankfully the S4 battery is not married to the phone so no problem, but with the new range and no way to replace the battery, big problems.

This guy wants a kid to die so a company learns a lesson about quality assurance.

Priorities, he has them.

Of course not , but it seems SS just does not want to get to grips with the real issues behind what is causing their products to overheat. So the conclusion is that SS will continue to avoid the issue until they are forced to confront it.

In the meantime the market place can be an agent for forcing them, by simply en mass stopping all purchases of SS products.
