According to the Sunday Times ad today the VM access pack for the V0 plan (i.e. prepaid) is now R55 at CNA, EDGARS and JET (Down from R89). This includes R50 airtime, so the simcard is effectively R5. :)

Unbelievably, the reps in the shops haven't a clue about this.

A chargeable call needs to be made before you can SMS or use data. {Just letting a number ring doesn't work}

Also you can pick your own last 6 digits of your VM number. What they don't always tell you is there is a fee of around R365 for the privilege. So you buy the pack with a promise of a next day number change, only to be told there is a fee!!

You must be new to South Africa! :)

I've activated two VM SIMs just by letting the number ring.

i also activated my vm sim for data by just letting a number ring :D
The guy in CNA rang his own cell number. He gave my phone back and I was getting a signal. He said it was activated but I couldn't send any SMSs. I tried several times & checked signal etc. Then I made a chargeable call and suddenly SMS worked!

I checked Edgars today and another CNA today - both no clue about the price reduction. They claim not to have read the Sunday Times and no alert had been issued from head office/Virgin.

Also no clue about picking your own number. Answers ranged from FREE through R365, R390 to R1000 for a number change to 0741 121212 or similar.

The CNA Virgin rep didn't call back & the Virgin Supervisor left a voicemail 3 hours later then didn't follow up.
(Pass me another piesang ;))

Dont hold your breath for virgin to get things right.

It is no wonder that the sales staff do not know about the product changes. Virgin does not even know what their left hand is doing. This is not only limited to VM, but more was expected of them.!!!!!

I paid R89 and i saved waaaaayyy more than R35 in the last month since i got VM. I saw the add on tv last night advertising the starter kits for R55

I'd just like to ad a disclaimer here.

In no way do I support the use of Virgin Mobile, despite the lower access packs. Their service leaves a lot to be desired. This includes data.

While waiting times for customer services are relatively low, the help desk people seem only to cloud issues and are not empowered to resolve problems on the spot (despite VM claims in their literature). A supervisor may not be on hand (despite VM promises) and you WILL get passed from pillar to post (contrary to VM statements).

If you are a sensitive individual, prone to frustration or have a low patience threshold, VM is not for you!!

...i liked my experience with VM so far. It’s the last 2 weeks that’s been eating at me. VM seems to be having problems with their own internet connection…
You can connect…just NO data comes back to you. Also glad to hear that the starter packs are R55 now.

Hope they get the problems sorted out, quickly!

I also paid R89, but I had mine delivered to me:D Also they did phone me about 4 or 5 times to check if I received it :).

Also had mine delivered to me, although it took almost 3 weeks. What finally got it done was an angry email and a HelloPeter at about 7 one night, then it magically arrived at 10am the next morning when it hadn't for the last 16 days besides countless calls.

When mine didn't arrive after 10days I PMed Piesang and it arrived the next day:D

Thanks for that. There are still people on the forum who doesn't trust me. I know in these times it's a risk to give your personal details to someone you don't know but I will not do anything with your details except for forwarding it to Virgin Mobile.

All the details that has been forwarded to me are deleted as soon as I forwarded it to Virgin Mobile.

I dont know why some of the ppl still dont trust you...it's realy weird.

I also bought my Starterpack at the old R89 price. But i've saved allot more by giving out that R89 on that day. R89 spent really well.

Was the delivery of your starterpacks free?
