Just wandering what's peoples opinion on the best VoIP service, by complete I mean one that provides incoming and outgoing calls, like Skype's "SkypeIN' and "SkypeOUT" (Think that's what the're called)

You have to check out TelFree. They give you a local (SA) 087 number for people to phone you directly on your softphone (downloaded for free) or SIP client (i.e. Asterisk) ... works wonderful.

Hope it helps.

You could also try out VOX. www.vox.co.za

They have a physical phone you connect to your ADSL line. It is a router and everything :) VERY complete :D Also get a 087 number.

I'm considering getting me one for at home :)

After some casual research, I've come to the conclusion that they need to pour some serious juice into their business before I would even consider giving it another glance. Check other vox threads.

If they give you an 087 number, doesn't that mean people phoning you on it would pay the 087 number rate of like 3-5 rand a minute?

There was an article on hellkom.co.za about the 087 rates, but I can't get into hellkom's page right now...

Have you seen Skaap. I thought it was a joke but its for real. They only offer international calls to landlines I think

Hi! As far as I could suggest you must go for packet 8 . This has really good features. It costs around 39$ per year . I have been using it since 1 year and really I havn't faced any problem yet.

Hi

I don't think anyone could beat vox at this stage, after using it for
a couple of days myself I think its a absolutely fantastic product.

Telfree provides best quality and best rates! vox uses per minute billing and even with their rebate system (which according to ICASA is only to be used for competition lines and stipulates that a part of the rebates offered should go to charity!) cannot beat the cost savings incurred with Telfree, especially for small, medium and corporate clients.
