Due to the fact that I have a brand new phone and that I make almost no calls, I've decided to cancel my Nashua contract which is a MTN Anytime 350. The plan was originally to go pre-paid, but I'm really loving my Afrihost APN data and I believe this requires a contract in order to work.

What is the cheapest MTN contract which one can get these days, and which will definitely work with the Afrihost APN? An added bonus would be one whereby I don't need to sign up for 24 months, but this isn't a deal-breaker.

Why not migrate the line to anytime 50 (top up) and leave it month-to-month if you dont want to be to sign up for 24 months

AFAIK Anytime 50 offpeak sim only at R29 per month. Just search their site for Anytime 50. Not sure if available on Topup at that price. Does Afrihost APN work on topup?
AFAIK you could also request this on a month to month basis which would then be the normal price of R50 per month.

Go to an MTN store and ask for sim only contracts even Nashua offers sim only offers @ 50% discount
I am with MTN and have a Anytime 100 for R59 pm x24 open line

Thanks guys. There is another thread floating around where Top-up contracts have been confirmed to work.

I was not aware that I could take an Anytime XX contract on a month-to-month basis. That is fantastic news!

Yes afrihost works normally with top up accounts

Yes anytime Top Up R50 sim only option with a 128k sim is only R29 per month with R50 airtime 25 sms and 10MB data a month.

The Top Up 100 sim only option is R69 per month and includes R100 airtime 25sms and 100MB data a month.
The Top Up 200 sim only option is R129 per month and includes R200 airtime 25sms and 100MB data a month+

Pretty decent deals if you ask me comes with MTN zone 100% too. Ohh and it works with afrihost and it allow you to use LTE

Just came from my local MTN store and she insisted that all their contracts, including top up, are 24 month. No month to month options at all.

Obviously want to believe that I just spoke to a clueless consultant, but any idea if there's something special I need to ask for if I want month to month?

Had a similar encounter with a clueless consultant a while back, who I had to show it to on the damn brochure they hand out. She then went on to spend 30 min on phone with HQ and just comes back with: "No, you can't. You could have but now you can't"

Iesh, do ask for a month to month contract...will confuse the poor souls, just request a migration to a lower package, TopUp 50...make sure they do not slap you with a downward migration fee...should be an 1-2-3 thang...

I'm looking for a 12 month contract that I can use my own phone with.
I've been to two different MTN branches and both insist that their "anytime" and "top-up" contracts are only available on 24 month contracts.
I'll be porting from cellc, so keeping my contract as month to month isnt an option. Their pamphlets in the terms and conditions do mention 6, 12 and 18 month contracts.
Any ideas of how or where I can get a 12 month contract?

You could try MTN direct... Its very funny cause the website also clearly shows under term the availability of 6,12,18 and 24 months contracts on the anytime and anytime top up packages.

No idea. All the branches keep going on about only having 2 year options, even when you are just looking for a SIM. Hmmm I'm going to send a PM to the MTN rep

I think mtn direct might be the only hope we have. Let us know what the MTN rep says though. I'm hoping that the consultants at the shop are all just useless.

Derp.... I forgot to actually message him yesterday. :erm: Will send a message now.

And yeah MTN Direct is supposed to have it, that was told to me by the standard MTN branch at Brooklyn, but then when you get to the Direct store they have no bloody idea on what you're talking about, and had to be shown on the damn brochure. Que her spending 30 min on phone with HQ to achieve nothing, bloody incompetence everywhere I swear.

EDIT: What the, I could have sworn there was an MTN rep on here the last time I checked.... NoMTN.jpg

Just signed another Top Up 50 contract @ R29 p/m x 6 months. No stupidness from them just told me that I will get a new LTE simcard and asked what size I wanted. I'm really impressed with the MTN store in Boardwalk Inkwazi mall Richards Bay. They know their stuff.

Cheapest contract that works with LTE and Afrihost. Comes with R50 airtime and 10mb data every month too. :D

Pardon my stupid question, but why do you need an MTN sim for an Afrihost package?

You don't if you intend to use it in a modem... If you want to use the apn option with afrihost it only works with contracts. LTE only works with contracts too. So its a cheap alternative if you wanted to use LTE and/or afrihost data and still make calls from the sim then this is the best solution.

So an MTN sim if its going into a phone, or Afrihost sim if its going into a router.

MTN direct is a good option for cheap top up contracts. I used to have 2 of them.

You should also save on the sim by going MTN direct as the stores usually charge you about R125 for a sim.

The sim and connection fee has been gone for some time from the stores. Yeah MTN Direct is always a great option cause it eliminates paperwork BUT they only sell 24 month contracts. The stores are able to sell 6,12 and 24 month contracts. I know they charge for sim swaps but new or additional contracts they don't charge a sim and connection fee. So I was told and have not paid it but was handed a new LTE sim from the store.
