Hi,

What's the cheapest way to buy Satrix ETF's? Is it via satrix.co.za directly or via places like Old Mutual etc?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Can you buy them through someone other than Satrix? I bought mine directly. Was really easy so dont see why you would want a middle man

Any share trading platform will do.

Actually also curious about the answer...specifically how I can park some money in satrix long term with minimal monthly fees.

If buying a large enough lump sum just buying directly wit ha stock broking/share trading account from one of the banks for example is the cheapest, if month to month then the Satrix platform.

Also why just Satrix ETFs? There are also index unit trusts from Satrix and others?

You can buy them through almost any JSE trading platform.

ETFSA - just as much, if not more, paperwork as Satrix themselves
EasyEquities - easiest and probably cheapest

FNB Share Saver - cheapest by far if you go debit order route. Buys RMBT40 and RMB MidCap (RMB versions of Satrix ETFs). Their TFSA account allows the same but you benefit from not having to pay income or capital gains.

EasyEquities and ETFSA also have TFSA accounts coming/available. STD Bank is also worth a look for TFSAs - many many ETFs to choose from.

...but EasyEquities is probably what you are looking for.

Buying a Satrix ETF through another broker is not buying it through a "middle man". It is a listed product on the JSE that is held in a BDA account under your name, the exception being EasyEquities that will hold it in a ring fenced company's account for you (this, in theory, allows them to be cheap when it comes to trading costs)

Easy Equities, trust me, it's the cheapest way.

I invite anyone to challenge that statement

Question on the TFSA fnb option tho.. what happens in year 17 when u no longer make a monthly debit order? Does FNB allow u to retain the account?
