Check for a stolen car?

How do you go about with checking whether the car you want to purchase is a stolen one? Can it be done online?

Except it can still be a stolen but cloned vehicle.

SAPS pulled a Yaris over and saw the VIN was tampered with, so they come to my colleague who is the owner on NATIS. Turns out her Yaris was a clone too, unknown what happened to the original Yaris that both were cloned from. But in the end, both ladies had no cars.

Doubt the normal police station would be able to help.

Might have better luck with Metro. Think they have those systems in their cars linked to the eNatis data.

You can use https://www.wheelindex.co.za/car-history-tool to check if car is currently listed as stolen by SAPS. You will need the VIN of the vehicle and the costs is R149.00 per report at the moment.

Did the roadworthy check, vehicle passed.
