YouTube has launched an addition to user profiles which show how much video you’ve watched on the platform.

The new feature is part of Google’s “Digital Wellbeing” initiative unveiled at Google I/O in May 2018, said the company.

Who the hell would want to use the auto play "feature". It's just an unwanted nuisance as far as I'm concerned.

I find it vaguely disturbing that Google tracks and even cares about this on an individualised basis. Next step - profiling you as left or right wing based on your viewing habits, and feeding you only self re-inforcing opinion... oh, wait, that pretty much already happens. And we wonder why we're becoming more polarised and incapable of appreciating subtlety in debate.

You can also set the YouTube app to remind you to take a break from watching after you’ve spent a certain amount of time using the platform.

Daily average 9h. My account is permanently signed into my Roku so accumulates whenever any of my family watches YouTube.

It's either YouTube or Netflix as I kicked DSTV to the curb a couple of years ago.
