A friend wants to get a 1 series ... I've taken the VIN to check with BMW.

Who do I phone to check history?

Any dealer will be able to draw the vehicle history for you - it just depends whether you happen upon a person who's feeling helpful. I'd phone one of the larger dealers and ask to speak to a service advisor.
 
You can also get information regarding insurance claims for the vehicle if you know someone in the car industry.
 
I wanted to buy a Landie, salesmen told me everything, then phone Landie dealer and hear the trough.

Mistake#1 Don't buy a car from a used car lot or a crowd that is not the dealer. Buy a Landie from a Landie Dealership and then you should get the full story.

Thought it was too good to be true. BMW confirmed an accident in 2007 and 2008!

Would be useful to see the costs and spares used related to those accidents as you can then determine if it was serious or not. A dinged front fender that was replaced is a non issue in my book. The more info you have the better decision you can make.
 
The first one had no information other than rated 'medium accident' - not sure what that is.
The second was R26,000.00

My one issue was it being out of Motorplan ... but when I told her about the accidents, she was put off!

I wanna check on a VIN, all I wanna know is has anyone checked on this particular VIN. Is it possible? As in, can you query whether anyone queried a VIN?

Just want to know whats the issue if someone else queried about the same car? Why are you concerned about this? And to answer your question, when i do clearance on vehicles, i dont get asked any questions, i just get the info, so i doubt they log the people making enquiries.

It was stolen so I'd like to check if anyone queried the VIN
