I cancelled a data contract with Vodacom in October of last year. There were to be no cancellation charges, and they reversed the funds that they had overcharged me. So, I went on my merry way, knowing all was well and that I didn't owe them anything.
Had a checked the final statement sent to me, I would've known that they expected me to pay 5 cents. Had they attempted to collect these five measly cents in the ensuing months, my credit score wouldn't be absolute rubbish today due to having an account "in arrears". I had no idea I owed them 5 cents, and because they didn't try to collect, I didn't know until now, when I tried applying for a contract at Cell C.
Guys 'n gals, check your final statements. Vodacom is the worst, and I keep thinking they did this deliberately as a final F-you, but I feel stupid for not checking my statement.
