New way to pay at Checkers

Shoprite says it has received positive customer feedback on the smart trolleys it is testing at two Cape Town stores, with a potential wider rollout on the cards.

Smart trolleys are among several self-checkout retail innovations in recent years that eliminate the need to pay for shopping at a till.

The only things I want a smart trolley for, is to do the shopping for me, so I don't have to deal with your cramped aisles, understaffed tills and out of stock specials.

You have that already. its called sixty60. You just need to not show me something is in stock on special, but then be out of stock of by the time you shop them, so you can push the normal price alternatives.

Either show them out of stock when the stock gets low, or give me the alternative item at the same price.

I swear it has happened to me the last 5 times in a row.

It also shows customers’ current discounts and promotions, and includes a map to help them navigate the store.
Now tell me without telling me, why would you need a map to navigate a store?

So the trolley with a tablet cant leave the store.
Now you must pack your stuff into another trolley.
What a useless IDEA.

321 and all the smart trolleys are GONE.

These kinds of tills have been in many shops in Europe for yonks. They rely on “first world mindset” people who are honest. Not saying ALL Europeans are honest… but here in Africa “As dit pap reën moet jy skep” vibe… I really dont see it working here. An overturned truck chaos comes to mind here.

The cashiers will now be called couriers, they will carry your goods to your car, so if you want to see more of a scowl on their faces other than the one you get when pulling up at a till, you're in for the ultimate South African shopping experience.

This is used not only for discounts but also to link the trolley to a bank card on the customer’s profile.

Na fsck off! I ain't linking schit, just give me the option to use Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

But I thought that's where logical organisation comes in?

You can organise as logically as you want but sometimes in a sea of products the thing is right in front of you and you just don’t see it.

Especially with other people running around obscuring shelves etc.

I actually wish they would just add this functionality of the smart trolley to their App…there’s no logical reason not to.

Huh? There are no tills.

This isn’t a self-service till like you think.

It’s also very well safeguard against loaded up any freebies.

The only real problem is that the trolley are too small to be useful.

Works fine in every McDonald’s and KFC around the country.
Which of these stores have products on hand for you to pick up and put in a trolley or scan on your way out? The system of ordering at McDonalds and KFC have a constant no stock issue which you only find out about after you have already paid for your order.
