Hey all, been forced to use 3G for a bit while i wait for helkom to get off their lazy backsides and install more adsl lines/ports in our area... they said march at the earliest.. yeah... right..

anyway, i wanna find out what is the most accurate way of finding out my ping, to see if it is worthwhile trying to play online games with my 3g connection... I am running off a wireless setup in my house, and the 3g card is in another room in a linksys router..

Some comments:
- ping smtp.vodacom.co.za to check just the Vodacom part. Anything further afield and your results would be affected by international, even local links
- use ping smtp.vodacom.co.za -t to keep the ping running (assuming you're on windows)
- even when 3G is performing well, my experience is that a proportion of pings always get lost. I assume that they are prioritised low and discarded by the network - maybe v3g can confirm that.

hate to burst your bubble, but i have been using my nick since 2000.. ;-)

thanks, found speed test earlier, gives me a ping of 240ms... not good enough for gaming...

guys latency on a wireless connection is always going to be a problem even playing on local servers.

Not to mention the EU servers .

I play cod on a wireless connection but on WIMAX had no lag eva...
