I had a moment of heart failure just now...

I finally managed to find a Nokia 6680, ponied up the deposit and took out
a new MyCall contract. After a weekend of futzing around, I have Linux/
bluetooth/GPRS working, and have been very pleased with it so far.

Then, after discovering more of the tools on the 6680, I suddenly noticed
the connection manager reporting two connections, "GPRS(01)" and one
called "Modem". I reckoned that the GPRS connection was for the phone's
own web browser, and "Modem" was for my laptop.

Aieeeee...did this mean I was connecting of HSCSD? If so, I have been on
for hours and hours and this would be a quick route to bankruptcy, no?

I'm reassuring myself that the connection manager says that my "Modem"
connection bearer is "Packet Data", and that it shows "Conn(inact)" most
of the time, switching to

But...how easy would it be to make this mistake? I just put *99#
in as my phone number into KPPP and it worked first time, and so I
forgot about it. I struggled a little bit with bluetooth/rfcomm, but that
seems to work most excellently and seems to have better range than
my WiFi router at home.

I'd be more reasssured if I could phone somebody and find out what my
current data charges are -- but the 258 number and some other number
I found just tell me "Thanks for phoning, we're experiencing temporary
network difficulties", which is kinda, well, useless.

Otherwise, the 6680 is a way cool phone/gizmo. My only complaint is
that it took two days and several calls to 808 to get my SIM activated.

Thanks,

Please PM me your phone number and I'll check tomorrow.

I'm just nosy - was he charged and almost made bankrupt? ;)

It's like a movie and you need the ending ...
