By sending the modem the command at+cgreg? it will check for the availability of GPRS in your area. I know that a return value of 0,0 is no GPRS coverage and that Vodacom reports a value of 0,1 and GPRS works with Vodacom. Mtn reports 0,2. Anybody know what this means. Is this EDGE or a higher data rate than standard GPRS?

Thanks,

This sounds interesting. How do you send the modem the command at+cgreg? I would really like to try this but I have no idea what you are talking about.

Start, Settings, Network and Dialup Connections. Copy and paste a copy of the Vodacom connection. Right click the copy and select properties, general, configure. Enable show terminal window, ok, ok.

Stop Vodacom Mobile Connect. Start this new connection you made. A terminal window will open. Some commands for the Option Quad Lite:

AT See if you can get to the modem
ATE1 Turn command echo on
AT+CPIN? Check if pin needed
AT+CPIN=1234 Set pin
AT+CGREG Check registration
AT+COPS=? List available networks
AT+CSQ Check signal strength

These must be completed with a CR (Return)

These are the ones I have used. Have fun. The command window will eventially time out and your will need to restart the connection.
