Cheer The Beloved Country

icyrus : Without trying to be rude, this is now just ignorance on your part and you are trying to take it out on Angelo. Crime (And violent crime) is *directly* related to education and employment. You are more than welcome to read up on the studies yourself. I recommend reading Freakonomics, as it is an enjoyable read and doesn't require the same amount of knowledge to understand as many texts. It draws some interesting conclusions. Not only is education and employment directly related to crime, but so is abortion

Thank you for a source, I will look it up.

I am not taking anything out on anybody. I never said I knew the cause, I just pointed out that there are countries with worse poverty and uneducation and dont have the violent crime that we do.

A personal opinion: I will never agree with anyone that tells me rape (of any kind) is a result of poverty or uneducation.

JStrike: you failed to correctly ascertain what icyrus is saying. There is a link between abject poverty and crime, yes, no one disputes this. But when the crime is incredibly horrendous violence (I think he used an example of a rape of a 6 Month old baby?), then that link is no longer applicable, as there are intense psychological problems relevant to the crime. To say that extreme violent crime is a product of extreme poverty is simply nonsensical. There are thousands of poverty stricken people in the world, but in 99% of those societies, poor folks just don't go around raping babies.

2 wrongs will never make a right!!

Why should skin colour be the only proxy for being advantaged/disadvantaged?
How do you measure the level of being advantaged/disadvantaged?
How do you measure if someone where disadvantaged/advanatged?

Here is a nice little true story...

We had a horse, standing in the field, not receiving any training , special food, treatment etc for 12 years. During these 12 years all the other horses did receive all the nice benefits. Nice Stables, nice food, good training and good treatment overall.

After 12 years, we gave the horse the same "opportunities". Ie started training, nice stabling etc.

So, after 2 years of training, which horse do you guys/gals think is better off?

The one that has been previously disadvantaged!! She is physically and mentally much stronger. Also performs much better. Her hooves don't crack (as they are hardened) and she doesn't spook for nothing.

**********************************************

So what is my point?

Denying people their basic rights is wrong. The previous government were wrong. They made huge mistakes. They even commited gross human rights injustices. Nothing we do now, will ever change or correct that.

All I am pleading for is: Stop the cycle, stop playing the race card. Be accountable for your desicions. Stop condoning laws that judges people based on their race / skin colour.

I pray that evil will be uprooted at government level.

I love South Africa.

kingmonty : It is a societal issue linked to poverty. You can have many different types of abject poverty, the difference beinf the surrounding circumstances. Poverty (combined with our past) in SA causes major psychological issues. The only country that comes close to ours in this regard is Brazil (Where there are economics similarities, but not the same level of mental destabalisation)

louisp : We cant change our part, but we most certainly can correct it. And we must do so

But are there Brazillian people running around raping babies? Even in Zimbabwe these sort of crimes are fewer than our average. Be that as it may, an interesting statistic I found a while back (will go dig it up when I get home) was something about more than half of the violent crimes committed in this country are committed by non South African citizens. In other words, the crime statistics do not echo your sentiments. Furthermore, if this severe circumstances as you are so keen to highlight in this country is the reason of these heinous crimes being committed, then why isn't every person who went through the same trauma committing them?

I'm sorry, I fail to see the correlation between abject extreme poverty and raping a baby. Any person committing such a crime is not fit to be a part of any society and should be castrated at the very least. To continuously say that horrific violent crime is a result of poverty is a nonsensical copout.

Ah, back to the original point finally! :)

How do we fix it? By making everyone equal, right?

kingmonty : Interesting about the non South African citizens

icyrus : Exactly, make everyone equal. And AA is a very effective way of doing this.

Look at it in terms of Maths

If you have a points system that help you get a job. The more points the better. (This is not out of 100 and doesn't have a limit)

Education : 50 pts
Old-Boys Network : 20 pts
Parents contacts : 30 pts

Now add in a new factor : AA (Which only normally applies to large companies, which make up the minority of companies in SA)

So white kids scorecard will look something like this (overall. Each person will vary a bit)

Education : 40 pts
Old Boys network : 10
Parents Contacts : 20

So black kids scorecard will look something like this (overall. Each person will vary a bit)

Education : 20 pts
Old Boys network : 1
Parents Contacts : 2
AA : 30

AA just adds an advantage to black kids to help rise them up to our level. It is not some sort of punishment to white kids

I told you already that I see what you are saying, but like kingmonty said its a gross generalization and it's irrelevant.

How many whites really get a job because of their parents?

Its irrelevant because the law should be to hire people who are the best for the job, no matter their race. This isn't the case and you know it. You're making excuses and reaching alot to do so.

Jstrike has just gone to the extreme of breaking down to you a not so hard to understand concept and you call it "excuses"?

I understand what he is saying, but its wrong, hence excuses.

You on the otherhand seem incapable of understanding my point.

Old-boys network? Parents influence? And what about those white people that have neither? They can just rot?

I have never in my adult life relied on any contact of my parents to find a job, simply because they move in totally different circles than myself! My father was in the building industry, my mother never worked, and I'm in IT! So where is the connection? I fail to see it...
